We are delighted to announce that our next Scarf for Lewy event will take place at the Usher Hall in Edinburgh on Monday, 19 April 2027.

Supporters across the country are invited to begin knitting and crocheting scarves, which will be joined together to create a huge scarf and raise awareness of Lewy body dementia.

The first Scarf for Lewy event was held at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 2022, backed by Dame Prue Leith. Scarves contributed by supporters were sewn together to create a scarf approximately one mile long, which was wrapped seven times around the famous venue.

The campaign travelled to Belfast in October 2023, when supporters encircled the Waterfront Hall with the giant scarf.

In October 2024, Central Hall in Manchester was given a woolly hug as supporters once again wrapped a mile of scarves around the landmark, supported by our patron Rob Rinder.

The scarves also continued to help people after the Manchester event. They were separated and donated to The Brick, a charity supporting people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in Wigan where we are headquartered.

We are now preparing to bring Scarf for Lewy to Scotland for the first time.

Jacqui Cannon, chief executive of the Lewy Body Society, said: “Scarf for Lewy has brought people together across the country and helped us start important conversations about a form of dementia that is still not widely understood.

“We are very pleased that our superscarf will be coming to Edinburgh in 2027. Every contribution will become part of a striking public display, while showing people living with Lewy body dementia and their families that there is a community standing alongside them.”

Each scarf should be 30cm, or approximately one foot, wide and can be any length – the longer the better.

It can be knitted or crocheted using any yarn, stitch, pattern or colour. The Lewy Body Society’s branding uses dark and light blue with polka dots, but contributors do not need to follow these colours. Scarves can be plain, striped, spotted or patterned.

Scarves can be sent as soon as they are finished, giving volunteers plenty of time to stitch them together before the Edinburgh event.
