Great Manchester Run 2013 – Shelley Duncan

manchester-run

Shelley ran this race in memory of her Gran. Shelley says..” She was an amazing lady, and the best Gran in the world! She started with dementia many years ago and then eventually got diagnosed with dementia with lewy bodies. She ended up in a home and over time the condition got the better of her and she died peacefully in August surrounded by her family, including me. This day changed my life as I knew it and I decided to make the most of my time on this planet. I wanted to get more into running and decided to run the Great Manchester Run this year. And there was no other charity closer to my heart than The Lewy Body Society so I decided to run for this cause. Although it is not very well known and not as big a charity as most of the others I saw on the day, I felt the proudest ever as I got to wear the Lewy Body Society vest and bracelet with pride…proud that I was raising money for such a good charity and proud that I was running it for my Gran. I hope she was looking down on me that day and I hope that she was proud of me, I am sure she carried me through as I did a lot better than I had anticipated!”
