Christmas Cards 2009

Once again Nikky Corker has produced 2 wonderful Christmas cards in aid of the Lewy Body Society.

The message inside is “Christmas Bleatings” and the cards come packaged with 6 of each design. Nikky has again not only produced the enchanting artwork but also organised the printing and distribution, which is hugely helpful to the Society. The cards are available for sale on Nikky’s website and she will be donating a share of the profits to the LBS.

Christmas cards from 2008 are still available directly from the LBS.

Thanks and Congratulations

Hearty thanks and congratulations go out to our stalwart Lewy Body legend, Simon Bone, for riding around the Isle of Wight on his bike in aid of our charity, for an astonishing third year in a row at the beginning of May 2009.

Sisters Denise and Sandra Ifield also successfully completed a 5k run in London in May on our behalf, raising £1000. Further north, Rhea Duff and our very own research student Marzena Kurzawa took part in the Edinburgh marathon on 31 May; an admirable feat in itself made even more memorable by the unprecedented heat in which they had to run it!

Thanks again to all our sporty friends for doing us proud.

We are pleased to be able to offer for sale two new delightful Christmas cards designed exclusively for the Lewy Body Society by Yorkshire artist and LBS member, Nikky Corker. The message inside is: “Season’s Greetings” and the back has brief information about the LBS. The price for 12 ( 6 of each design) cards and envelopes is £4.50, which includes postage. It’s one of the most helpful things you can do.

Treasurer Wanted

Because of other commitments, our treasured Treasurer, Ashley McClinton, who has served the LBS so well for a longtime, has asked if he could turn the books over to someone else.

If you have a background in numbers, experience in dealing with charitable affairs or a keen willingness to learn, and the time available and would like to help the LBS in this invaluable and essential position, please contact info@lewybody.org to write to us at Hudson House, 8 Albany St, Edinburgh EH7 4AU. It is not onerous and except for preparing the annual reports, takes only a few hours a week.

LBS Patron Honoured

Lewy Body Society Patron, Miss June Brown, best known as “Dot” on BBC TV’s East Enders was awarded the MBE in the Queen’s Birthday 2008 Honours List for her services to drama and charity.

Miss Brown, whose late husband, actor Robert Arnold, died of DLB has been Patron of the LBS since June 2007 and has been very generous in her time and enthusiasm in raising awareness of the disease.

Return of the Auction of Spotty Things

Back by popular demand, in honour of Patron, June Brown, receiving her well-deserved gong, this year’s auction will be of Dotty Things. In addition to a wonderful variety of beautiful and useful “Lewy Body” articles, this year’s auction will feature several donations by June.

The auction will take place the first 2 weeks in December and the catalogue will be online in November.
